E Dee’s first book DREAM SEASON is set in the late nineteenth century in Norwalk, California, when the town was in its infancy. She describes the trying times this newly formed community endures in order to succeed. Her grandfather and pitching phenom Walter Settle (born 1876) was known as “the speedball king” in Southern California baseball circles. He met his match when he became the first person to face-off against the great Walter Johnson. Johnson was the first pitcher to throw over 100 miles per hour, a feat rarely performed to this day. Though Walter Settle had offers to pitch for two National League teams in the East, in the end he chose to remain with his family in his beloved California.
